Megan Ward
Megan is a painter based in Peterborough, Ontario, whose broad, mixed media approach to art-making is rooted in traditional 2D techniques. She grew up in Bridgenorth and returned to the area upon graduating from OCAD University (Toronto) in 2012. Meg’s studio-gallery space, Hexagon Studios, is the home of her professional practice. It has been open to the public for drop-in visits since the autumn of 2015 (the commute is short because she lives just upstairs). The final year of her degree was completed at OCADU’s studio in Florence, Italy, and Meg holds a BFA in Drawing & Painting. Meg's work considers the role that memories and personal symbolism play in our interactions with the external world, and how imagination, dreaming, and subconscious influences affect our recollections. The intersection of the common, relatable experience and the highly personal is what sparks her imagination. Inspiration comes in fits and starts from the many facets and rhythms of existence—from family photo albums to flea markets, nightmares and fairy tales, songs and the daily minutiae. Meg makes use of oil and acrylic paints, photography, collage and image transfer techniques, pen and graphite, and creative writing.
