Judy Sherman
I am not going to tell you that I started drawing at 8yrs old and for an art project in grade 3, I drew Michelangelo’s statue of David and added a fig leaf to his groin. I’m also not going to tell you that I studied Academic painting and drawing in Florence, Italy. I am also not telling you that I have received grants, won awards, am represented in galleries and hang in collections worldwide. What I am going to tell you is that I work and paint in my robe until mid afternoon. My inspirations are Michelangelo and Gumby. I believe that inanimate objects in cartoons are more real than people and it is through these characters that the message can be delivered with ease. My paintings must tell a story, evoke a spirit of nostalgia and elevate the soul.
