Paint is potent. Working in a non objective manner allows me to throw strong emotions into each canvas. Using colour as an expressive element and working large scale contribute to the visceral experience. The content comes from working quickly and in layers, whereby underpainting seems to emerge from past images. Titles are integral to the work and become statements that tap into the visual language. I want my paintings to be beautiful because they are authentic, not because they are pretty.
