Samantha Rodin
It starts with an idea or concern for something happening in the world, be it based on personal or shared experiences. What follows is a body of work without any specific commitment to one medium. The methods or materials I use are what best represent the concept of each piece. My most recent work explores the form and function of common materials; predominantly canvas and plaster. These materials are frequently used in art making, fashion, architecture and across other industries as a backdrop or base. By bringing these materials to the foreground and relying on texture and light to develop a composition, the work asks viewers to question what they are looking at and how they relate to the physicality of what they are confronting.
