PETER CHUNG

Born and educated in Hong Kong, Peter has been working as a full-time artist in Toronto since 1996. He is the founding member and former instructor at the Hong Kong Institute of Visual Art. Peter has won numerous awards for his works in advertising and oil paintings. A strong background in graphic design has led him to develop a style of painting that is rich in color and reveals a strong balance of form and composition. Peter’s previous works’ subject matters ranged widely from traditional still-life to various landscapes and floral Peter now paints simple houses to represent people. The houses have small windows as eyes and without doors to signify people’s need for privacy. Two houses are characterized as lovers, with big and smaller houses as families and many houses as friends. The background graphics represent memories of love of the ‘ houses ‘ ; squares are like picture frames now framing memories; strokes or circles are flashes of memories. As lovers, one house is shadowing-protecting-the other as sign of willingness to sacrifice for love. A rewarding light shines on them to bless for their great love and celebration of happy life!
