Over the past decade, I have applied myself to exploring the field of depth in painting. I would at times paint objects exhibiting 3D effect, using an array of depth enhancement tools through the management of colour, lighting, focus, clarity and so on. Most of the time, however, I would incorporate planes in the picture to sub-divide the field of depth, enticing the viewer to see subjects in the spaces in front of, or behind the planes, or emerging through the planes. Paintings with 3D or depth effect exude an urgent sense of reality in some cases, and a mysterious and haunting sensation in others. I employ these effects to express human emotions in my paintings, regardless whether I am painting figures, inanimate objects, or abstract schemes.
