Passion Seed
At this moment
a box of bright red geraniums
spangles color across a window sill
above a narrow, cobbled street
pink in afternoon light, in Perugia.
The boxed flowers imperceptibly sway
to the rhythmic bumpings of the occupants
of the room belonging to the window
and its flowers.
It is siesta. Marie and Franco
sweat in their marriage bed
wet with the long joy of their sweet love.
At this moment
a Japanese businesswoman
sheds her straight navy skirt and sensible blazer
for a traditional black silk kimono
on which butterflies and mountains
rise and fall to the beat of her chest.
(The whites of her breast are overlaid
with butterfly wings;
her nipples and aureoles, the flesh of sunrise
on those outer mountains.)
She waits expectantly for her young lover
who greets her with the distinct formality
of their true intimacy,
taking one of her small hands
delicate in themselves as butterflies,
in his, and with the other
opening her kimono.
He then matches his hands to the explorations
of inner mountain lava
of proboscis and nectar.
At this moment
dark jungle heat throbs
between her legs, her lower belly
as her first love tenderly
if awkwardly persists
against the door of her cave.
Half-laughing, almost embarrassed, he fumbles
until he feels her sudden hand
lift his willingness
to the cup of their love.
At this moment
in countless homes, cars, alleys,
boats, jungles, beaches
any surface moving or still
or standing, sitting, leaning
the weeping of the moon of love
love’s waters mingle
with the ecstasy of sun’s fire.
At this moment
the history of our blue-green planet
locks the dimensions of all couples through time
in the breath of embrace
the planet’s imperative.
And now the lingering perfume of our ancestors,
their pulse, plaits the air with a tangible scent
until all are driven to re-enact.
All, all animals, birds, plants, fish, insects
all seeing and hearing their way to each other
in hurley-burley motion
until all you know in all directions
is the latest clap of orgasm
shuddering across a planet
so used to ecstasy, so accustomed to climax
she throws it away in every detail free
as she continuously comes
tumbling between gravity and centrifugal force
this Passion Seed in space.
