First Nations Writers Grant Proposal Handbook & Guidance

The First Peoples' Cultural Council is a First Nations-run Crown Corporation with a mandate to support the revitalization of Aboriginal language, arts and culture in British Columbia. We provide funding and resources to communities, monitor the status of First Nations languages and develop policy recommendations for First Nations leadership and government.For many of us, writing a grant application or proposal can seem overwhelming. Simply figuring out which funding program to apply to can be confusing and explaining our ideas clearly on an application form isn’t always easy.

Arts staff at FPCC developed the Artist Grant Proposal Writing Handbook to offer suggestions and clarify the process of writing an arts grant proposal.

Ontario Arts Council - Grants & Services

The Ontario Arts Council is an arm's-length agency of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport .  OAC's grants and services to professional, Ontario-based artists and arts organizations support arts education, Aboriginal arts, community arts, crafts, dance, Franco-Ontarian arts, literature, media arts, multidisciplinary arts, music, theatre, touring, and visual arts.

The Ontario Arts Council is directed by 12 volunteer board (council) members who come from communities throughout the province.  They are appointed by the Government of Ontario for a three-year term.  OAC's board is responsible for setting OAC's policies and oversees the organization's operation.

For more than 50 years, the Ontario Arts Council (OAC) has played a vital role in promoting and assisting the development of the arts for the enjoyment and benefit of Ontarians.

In 2013-2014, OAC funded 1,737individual artists and 1,095 organizations in 223 Ontario communities, for a total of $52.1 million.

Ontario Trillium Foundation

One of the largest grantmakers in Canada, Ontario Trillium Foundation is unique for its deployment of 330 volunteers to review and analyze more than 3,000 grant applications each year. To make great grants that help create vibrant and healthy communities, program staff rely on our volunteers to bring their knowledge of local community needs and sectoral expertise to the grant review process.

OTF awards approximately 1,500 grants each year to community-based not-for-profits and charitable organizations in the arts, recreation, environment and human and social services sectors. An agency of the Ontario government with an annual budget of over $100 million, OTF is always looking for ways to be a more effective grantmaker as well as a thought leader.

In 2013, the Ontario Trillium Foundation celebrated thirty years of granting. The Foundation marked this important milestone with a reflection on its successes, challenges, and lessons learned over the past three decades.

Mayor's Endowment Fund for the Arts

The Mayor’s Endowment Fund for the Arts supports art activities that take place within Richmond Hill or serve to enhance activities undertaken by individuals or arts organizations in Richmond Hill to promote the community. Funding may be granted for events that promote education, new works in theatre, dance, music (including composition and new play development), presenting opportunities, touring opportunities, children’s programming and organizational development. The Fund will award grants for projects that will be completed within 12 months of the date of application. However, as the Fund continues to grow, applications for multiple-year grants will be considered.

City of Vaughan Award for Higher Arts Education

Thanks to the generous support of RAVE Awards (Recognizing Arts Vaughan Excellence) sponsors, the annual City of Vaughan Award for Higher Arts Education was established to financially assist the emerging talent of Vaughan-based students pursuing credited post-secondary education in the arts. Student selection is based on financial need, academic merit and demonstrated community leadership.

Newmarket Celebrates the Arts - Grant Program

The Town of Newmarket in partnership with Newmarket Celebrates the Arts launched a grant program that will support Newmarket's established and aspiring artists, local groups and community organizations in a range of artistic disciplines including visual arts, performing arts (theatre, dance), music, film and literary works.

Newmarket residents, or those involved in Newmarket-based events, can apply for a grant in the following categories: grants for youth (17 and under) - up to $1,000; grants for post-secondary education- up to $5,000; and grants towards project-based events put on by individuals, groups or community organizations - up to $5,000.
